ANC WELCOMES SENTENCING OF HERO BOY’S KILLER

The ANC in the Northern Cape has welcomed the life imprisonment sentence imposed on Tefelo Dikole who killed a six-year old Kutlwano Garesape whilst he was protecting his mother Evelyn Garesape from being raped on 12 August 2016 near Jan Kempdorp.

When accosted and attacked by the now convicted Dikole, the deceased Kutlwano had missed his school bus when his mother was walking him to school. The Northern Cape High Court had heard gruesome details of what had transpired on that day as Dikole brutally stabbed Kutlwano with a broken bottle when the minor tried to prevent him from raping his mother.

The court imposed a life sentence for Kutlwano’s murder on Dikole and seven year jail term for attempted rape.

Secretary of the ANC in the Northern Cape Deshi Ngxanga noted in a statement that Dikole’s sentencing “comes a day after what would have been the eighth birthday of this young hero.”

“We applaud the law enforcement agency for speedily ensuring that the case reaches finality and that the family may finally find closure on the matter.  We further support the call made by the Provincial Government to continuously provide counselling for the little Kutlwano’s family. We are of the view that a strong message has been sent out to perpetrators who abuse women and children.

“The ANC calls on members of the community to work together with government in ensuring that we protect women and children. Let us adopt the spirit of being each other’s keeper. We believe that it is only through working together that we are able to ensure that our communities are safe,” stated Ngxanga.
