KIMBERLEY SHUTDOWN: MULTI STAKEHOLDER COMMUNITY TASK TEAM

A Sol Plaatje Community Task Team comprised of business, non-governmental organizations and professionals has been established. This in an effort to find a common ground around community demands and ensure a safe environment for all in Kimberley.

Despite gains in stopping the Sol Plaatje Municipality from implementing its annual electricity increase of just under six percent and the R260 monthly surcharge and getting the municipality’s municipal manager Goolam Akharwaray and chief financial officer Lydia Mahloko placed on precautionary suspension, a demand for the recall of the executive mayor Mangaliso Matika still stands.

Thabo Mothibi spoke to Zoe Bula of the Task Team.
