North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has confirmed to the SABC that he will be resigning tomorrow. Speaking to the SABC’s Aldrian Sampear on 24-hour tv news channel via telephone, Mahumapelo said a media briefing will be held where he will explain his decision.
When quizzed amid being vague, Mahumapelo responded with “I will be the former Premier by tomorrow.”
However, Mahumapelo indicated that his position as provincial ANC chairperson shall remain unchanged, citing that its for the branches of the ANC to decide.
The confirmation comes in the wake of the North West capital of Mahikeng and other areas being affected by unprecedented violence and lawlessness as calls for Mahumapelo to resign escalated.
President Cyril Ramaphosa was forced to cut short his London trip to attend to a besieged Mahikeng. Calm was somehow restored.
Ramaphosa and a high-powered ANC delegation intervention also led to widespread consultations within all structures of the ANC in that province.
