All attention will be on the Northern Cape High Court for its verdict into a bid lodged to have the province’s ANC List Conference stopped.

Judgement was reserved as acting judge Willem Coetzee declared that legal representatives shall be informed of the resumption of proceedings this week.

In being optimistic of a favourable outcome, ANC Northern Cape chairperson Zamani Saul maintained that the matter before court was “frivolous and meritless” and that the party is forging ahead with preparations for conference set for this Sunday, 11 December in Upington.

Equally hopeful and cautiously optimistic was Eric Khotseng, a representative of a group of five that has taken the ANC to court over the legitimacy of its provincial leadership and the processes leading to the list conference.

“For us it is not a win-lose situation, at the very least this should be a wake up call for the ANC that something is terribly wrong. If this legal process along with others across the country, can at least make the ANC conscious of its obligation to right itself, then we would have won. The cost would not matter if that can be achieved,” declared Khotseng.

Meanwhile, interviews of candidates on the province-to-province list and province-to-national have unfolded. The conference is also expected to declare Cyril Ramaphosa as its preferred candidate for president  after next year’s general election. With utter bravery and conviction, the Northern Cape was the first province to throw its weight behind Ramaphosa’s party presidential bid in the run-up to the watershed national conference of last year December.
