PROTEST IMPACT ON EDUCATION

Tuesday, 31 July 2018

The Northern Cape Department of Education can confirm that schools in the Kimberley area remained open despite the recent protest in area. However, the attendance, specifically of educators and learners were very low today at most of the schools.

It is clear that protests are affecting the access to the schools in the Sol Plaatje Municipal area. School Governing Bodies have decided to dismiss all the affected schools early today because of the poor attendance and matters relating to safety.

It should be noted, that the Department has not closed any school and hope that an amicable solution is reached soon, so that schooling can return back to normal. Our District office has developed a recovery plan and it will only be implemented once the situation has completely normalised.

End.
